Dr Jeff Farrow
In 1979 on completing my appointment at Williamstown Hospital I was lucky enough to be taken on as an associate by Dr Keith Harrison, and so began my long association with the Williamstown General Practitioners Group, as well as my time serving for many years as a Visiting Medical officer to the hospital. Since then I have had the opportunity to develop my interests in various areas of medicine. I have a Shared Obstetric Care appointment with the Royal Women's, Western (Sunshine) and the Mercy Maternity (Heidelberg and Werribee) Hospital. I have an interest in Geriatric Care and attend a number of local aged care facilities. I hold an appointment as a Local Medical Officer with the Department of Veteran Affairs. And the Group’s facilities enable me to continue my interest in minor procedural work (excision of superficial skin lesions and cancers and minor surgical procedures).
I have a particular interest in aviation and hold an appointment as a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner for Civil Aviation Safety Authority, and evennthough I have decided to retire from every day general practice work, I will continue providing aviation medical assessments. On the personal side this interest has resulted in a long involvement in gliding, and I currently hold a coaches rating with the Gliding Federation of Australia. In more recent times I have been able to extend the interest to flying light power aircraft with the Recreational Aircraft Association. I also have interests in computing and electronics, and I enjoy cycling in the west’s expanding network of bike tracks, as well as on the road. And of course I spend as much time as I can with my four children and their expanding families. Having shed the stresses of running a business, I currently intend to continue working as a general practitioner for the foreseeable future - but hope to gradually rationalise the hours - as this practice is such an important part of my life.
